Ernesto D.R. Santibanez Gonzalez’s  passion is to address and solve problems at the interface of climate change and sustainability that arise in many different fields, such as supply chain, energy efficiency, low carbon economy, carbon capture and storage, smart city, smart manufacturing, sustainable and resilience supply chain, sustainable operations management, and sustainable finance. The integration of disruptive technology, business processes and operations research methods play a key role to understand and solve those complex problems. His current research is characterized by integrating mathematical models, big-data, blockchain and internet technology to understand, model and provide practical solutions to companies and organizations that need to address climate change and sustainability problems.

His experience in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management and Operations Research with a PhD in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in a joint program with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) gives him a good understanding of how to integrate information technology with quantitative methods to solve real-life problems. Most of his professional life he has been related to Business, Environment and Engineering schools.

He is serving as Associate Editor, Editor in Chief and Guest editor in several top tier Journals including Journal of Cleaner Production (Elsevier), Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing (Springer) and European Journal of Operational Research. During the last ten years, he has published more than 60 articles in top-tier journals. He has had visiting appointments in several universities of Brazil, China, and UK. London Business School (UK) was his last visiting appointment.

Currently, he is supervising and co-supervising (PhD) graduate students in Brazil, Chile and China. He leads the Circular Economy and Sustainability 4.0 Initiative (CES4.0), he is Member of the Board of Directors (Counsellor) – National Forestry Society of Chile (SNF) and Technical Secretary – Chinese-Chile Initiative – Association of Businessmen of China in Chile. He has developed over 80 research, innovation and consulting projects and provided solution to real problems in different countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Angola, China, and USA. His experience spans various industrial sectors such as Energy, Retail, Mining, Agri-food, Forestry, Logistics and Oil and Gas.
